After being nominated for various important awards, including the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), our composer Volker Bertelmann (Hauschka) is also in the running for the coveted Oscars in the “Best Original Score” category. The award ceremony will take place on March 12th.
The English Observer impressively described Volker Bertelmann’s score:
“Then there’s the score: haunted, almost organic-sounding compositions by Volker Bertelmann, with a groaning, ominous three-note motif, played on a harmonium, which sounds like the earth itself is howling in pain.” (The Observer, 15 October 2022)
The film by director Edward Berger is based on the world-famous hit novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. It is the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front during World War I: as they fight for their lives – and for each other – in the trenches, Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of the war unfolded war into despair and fear.
